Canada Welcomes 108,000 immigrants in the first quarter of 2022
According to IRCC, Canada welcomed 108,000 immigrants in the first quarter of the year, they exceeded their goal of making a final decision for 147,000 permanent residency applications. As Canada targets to welcome 432,000 new immigrants in 2022, this is a direction to a good start. Canada welcomed a total of 401,000 immigrants in 2021, which is the highest since 2019.
These applicants were invited under the Provincial Nominee Program under the Express Entry system, as the other Express Entry Programs (Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class) are currently still on hold.
It was mentioned that applications for those programs might be back as early as spring.
“While navigating unprecedented challenges in Canada’s immigration system, we have kept client experience as our focus, leading to record levels of newcomers in Canada. Helping clients come to Canada quickly, with predictable processing times and efficient communication, remains a top priority for me. Canada is proud to be a destination of choice for so many people around the world, and we will continue to work hard to provide the best experience possible for them.’, said The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.
Canada also reached its target goal for citizenship, by inviting over 210,000 people to become Canadian citizens 2021- 2022.
