Express Entry Draws Back in July 2022
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has not held Express Extry draws for Federal Skilled Workers Program and Canadian Experience Class since December 2020 and September 2021 respectively.
Travel restrictions in 2020 and 2021, due to the pandemic, held up the processing of applications, which led to an increase in the backlog of those applications. Officials were beginning to struggle, so they had to put a temporary pause on the express entry draws.
Minister Sean Fraser, Honourable of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship announced that Express Entry draws will soon resume, and invitations to apply for permanent residency will start going out in July.
IRCC were able to double the number of permanent residence decisions made in the first quarter of 2022, compared to 2021, they made decisions on 156,000 permanent residency applications, leading to Canada having to welcome 113,000 new permanent residents between January 1st 2022 to March 31st 2022. They were also able to process more than 100,000 work permit applications during this quarter.
This is good news overall and this means Express Entry applications can now resume again
