The four most recent draws occurred from December 18-21. The December 18 all-program draw invited 1,325 candidates with a minimum CRS of 524. The subsequent three draws focused on category-based selection in one of the six possible categories. Specifically, the December 19 draw targeted trades occupations and invited 1,000 candidates with a minimum CRS of 425. On December 20, 670 candidates in transport occupations received invitations with a CRS score requirement of at least 435. Lastly, on December 21, IRCC invited 400 candidates in agriculture and agri-food occupations with a minimum CRS score of 386.

IRCC conducted three additional draws between December 6 and 8. The December 6 draw was all-program. The December 7 draw was for candidates eligible under the category for French-language proficiency. And the December 8 draw invited candidates in STEM occupations.

There were seven Express Entry draws in December, marking the highest number of draws in a single month for all of 2023. This flurry of activity followed a six-week pause from October 26 until the December 6 draw. With IRCC not providing a confirmed reason for the hiatus.

What Can be Anticipated for Express Entry in 2024?

According to the Immigration Levels Plan 2024-2026, Canada sets to welcome 110,000 new permanent residents through Express Entry during the year.

This represents a significant increase from the 82,880 Express Entry candidates that IRCC aimed to target in 2023. However, it’s crucial to note that the elevated target for 2024 doesn’t necessarily guarantee that all invited candidates will be granted permanent residency by the end of the year. Some, especially those invited later in the year, may not arrive until 2025. It’s due to IRCC’s service standard of six months to issue a final decision on Express Entry applications for permanent residency.

In 2023, IRCC issued over 100,000 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to Express Entry candidates, indicating a robust and active immigration system.
