Guide For Your Immigration Journey

To simplify professional immigration we divide them into three categories:

Direct immigration from home country – You arrive in Canada as a permanent resident with all resident rights (excluding the right to vote). After living in Canada for 3 years, you can receive Canadian Citizenship.

Immigration through employment – You arrive in Canada as a temporary resident with an employment visa to work for a specific employer and after some time of work in Canada, you can apply for permanent residency. The requirements for the duration of employment to apply for permanent residency may vary from 3 months to one year, based on your background, profession, and location of your employment. For example, in some provinces, you need to work for only three months in order to qualify for permanent residency, and other provinces require one year.

Immigration through education – You arrive to Canada as a temporary resident with a student visa, complete your program, and apply for permanent residency after graduation.

It doesn’t matter which of three categories you chose for your immigration. At the end of the day, in order to achieve the status of Permanent Resident of Canada, you should apply for one of the immigration programs that each of these strategies includes. Of course, direct immigration is the best category for most prospective immigrants, as you’ll arrive in Canada as a permanent resident without any work or study requirements in order to achieve it.

What Are The Easiest Programs For Immigration From Your Home Country Without Coming To Canada As A Worker Or Student?

The most popular programs used by more than 80% of candidates for direct professional immigration are the following:

Express Entry – Federal Skilled Workers

Express Entry is not an immigration program or stream. It is a system to rank and select candidates who meet the requirements of one of the immigration programs linked with Express Entry. It includes federal programs (managed by the Canadian government) as well as some provincial programs (managed by the provincial governments) that all allow newcomers to move to Canada permanently. Most of these programs determine eligibility based on points systems.

Express Entry points are based on a candidate’s human capital like age, education, years of skilled experience, knowledge of English or/and French, and relatives in Canada if you have them.

If you score enough points and pass the threshold set by immigration authorities for the program, you can apply for permanent residency. However, if you do not score enough points based on your personal background, you can get additional points if you receive a job offer from a Canadian Employer, or in some cases, get a Canadian License for your profession.

Case Scenarios based on our clients experience:

John 28 years old single, possesses a Master’s Degree in Computer Sciences, has 3 years of experience as a software developer, and his English is good enough to speak, read, and write without difficulty. John immigrated to Canada through Express Entry Skilled Workers Program within 5 months.

Express Entry – Federal Skilled Trades

The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) is the simplest way to move to Canada for candidates who work in the trade occupationsthat are in demand in the Canadian job market (mechanics, electricians, technicians, supervisors in trade jobs, cooks, butchers and others).

The same as Skilled Workers Program, the Federal Skilled Trades is also the points based one, but the threshold is much lower. However, in additional to pass the points based threshold, the program has must requirement – either job offer for trade position or Canadian Trade Certificate, confirming your skills to work in your trade.

Provincial Nominee Programs

Provincial Nominee Programs are distinctive programs run by the Canadian provinces of Ontario, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Nunavut, and Quebec.

Each Province applies its own requirements to immigrants, based on the lack of work force in the provincial economy sector and ability of newcomer to adapt into province.

Almost all provincial programs set must requirements as job offer from employer operating in the province, relatives living in the province or support from provincial communities to meet the eligibility criteria. However, another provinces, such as Alberta, SK, NS and Ontario are ready to accept candidates based on professions that are in demand in their province.

It means that for the provincial program, candidate’s profession is playing a very important role if to apply for PR through provincial nominee program.

Pilot Programs (Atlantic and Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot Programs)

The Pilot Programs are the simplified immigration programs designed to make up for manpower shortage in the Canadian Atlantic Provinces and Rural and Northern territories.

Both programs set no age limits for the applicants. Having a job offer from an employer who runs a business in one of the Atlantic Provinces or rural municipalities is program’s main requirement.

All what is required from candidate is only secondary education, functional English (an IELTS score of 4 of 9) and one year’s experience of employment in the specialty specified in the job offer.

Program is very attractive but is job offer based and not so many professions are in demand in the locations where the program is running. The program was set up mostly for candidates in trade professions like truck drivers, mechanics, plumbers, electricians, butchers, cooks, agriculture workers and other trade jobs.
