June’s First Express Entry Draw: IRCC Extends Invitations to Candidates
Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted its fourteenth Express Entry draw of 2023, inviting 4,800 candidates in an all-program draw. The candidates were required to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 486.
This draw, which took place in June, marks the first draw of the month and follows the most recent draw on May 24. In the previous draw, IRCC invited 4,800 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 488 in an all-program draw. It is worth noting that this score is higher than the minimum CRS score requirement of 483 in the all-program draw held on April 26.

IRCC Introduces Category-Based Selection Draws Scheduled for Summer Launch
In a recent news release on May 31, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the establishment of six new category-based selection criteria for Express Entry candidates. These categories specifically target candidates with attributes that align with Canada’s economic goals. The five categories are designed for candidates with work experience in healthcare, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professions, trades (such as carpenters, plumbers, and contractors), transportation, and agriculture and agri-food. Additionally, there is a category for candidates with solid French-speaking abilities.
IRCC anticipates commencing the category-based draws during the summer; however, an exact date has not been provided. To be eligible for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in the targeted draws, candidates must already be in the Express Entry pool. IRCC will evaluate and rank Express Entry candidates based on their fulfillment of the category requirements and issue ITAs to those with the highest scores.
It’s important to note that IRCC will continue conducting all-program and program-specific draws as necessary, in addition to implementing the new category-based selection criteria. This multi-faceted approach aims to provide diverse opportunities for Express Entry candidates to secure permanent residency in Canada.
A Look into Express Entry in 2023: Latest Updates and Invitations
In 2023, excluding the current draw, IRCC has already invited 49,948 candidates across 13 draws. This marks a significant increase compared to the number of candidates invited between July and November 2022. IRCC did not conduct all-program draws until July 2022, following a pause related to the COVID-19 pandemic, during which 31,000 candidates were invited.
May hosted two Express Entry draws. The first draw, held on May 10, exclusively targeted Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates, inviting 589 candidates. These candidates were part of the Express Entry pool but also received nominations from provincial governments.
April featured two similar draws, both of which were all-program draws, inviting 3,500 candidates each. The first draw on April 12 required candidates to have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 346, while the second draw on April 26 had a minimum CRS score of 483.
March stood out with its remarkable number of draws and candidates. Four draws were conducted, collectively inviting a total of 21,677 candidates. Three of these draws were all-program draws, with each one inviting 7,000 candidates. The remaining draw, consisting of 667 candidates, was exclusively for PNP nominees.
February also held four draws, each specific to a particular program. Three draws were conducted for PNP candidates, and the fourth draw marked the first-ever Express Entry draw exclusively for candidates in the Federal Skilled Worker Program. In January, there were two all-program draws, each inviting 5,500 candidates.
